Park on the station approach to Grindleford station at SK251787. Turn left up the main road and after a few hundred meters take the second road right into a collection of pleasant houses. Follow this for 100m or so to a prominent footpath on the left along the side of a house into Padley Woods.. Follow the path, undulating in places as it climbs up through the delightful broad leaved woods to emerge near a National Trust car park Left of the car park is a long gritstone wall which has a stile in it. Cross this and the fields behind to the obvious Grouse Inn. (Food and drinks) Turn left here and opposite the Inn cross the road to a small gate that leads over the field to a second gate and a usually boggy path leading gently uphill. At a sign post turn right up to White Edge and right again to follow the track along the Edge for some 3.5km passing close to a white trig point (365m) at about 2.5km. There are superb views in all directions, see picture above. The path continues, eventually veering right, dropping down to a stream with a slippery wooden bridge and eventually leads to a small road and PAD car park at Curbar Gap. (Ice creams in summer) Turn right and walk round the back of the car park, pass through a gate and follow the well worn track for about 4km along the top of Curbar and Froggat Edges, again, superb views. Eventually, the track joins a main road, turn right, cross the road, pass through a small gate and drop down some steep steps to a stream. Climb up the other side, through a gate to the end of the National Trust car park that we passed earlier. Retrace the route through the woods to the starting point. Allow 3 hours walking time

Particular interest: Padley Woods, Grouse Inn, White Edge, Curbar Edge, Froggatt Edge.
