There is a large and expensive car park in the village and we chose to squeeze in else where. A superb walk any time of year. Walk down the hill into Lathkill Dale, cross the river and climb out of the valley on a broad zigzag track. At the top, pass throught the gate, cross the field and through the nearby Meadow Place Grange. At the far side pass through two gates either side an enclosure then head up the field trending left towards a dry stone wall. Continue to a stile, through this and a field to a minor road (Back Lane). Dog-leg right to a continuation track that leads to another small road, Moor Lane. Turn left into Youlgrave, dogleg right to a lane that leads down into Bradford Dale. Closs the footbridge and walk upstream past several very pleasant pools with wildfowl and fish. After about 1.2km the main track swings right (leading to Middleton), follow this across the stream past some enclosures then turn left through a well vegitated section. Climb a set of steps, turn right, down to a footbridge, cross this then follow a lightly marked track over several stiles to a lane at SK 202626. Cross the lane and follow the path through a wooded gorge to Weaddow Lane. Opposite is a new farm track not marked on the map. Follow this almost to the farm, and where it bends left to Mount Pleasant Farm, cross right to a surfaced track. Follow this past Little Rookery Fam to a signpost. Go through the gate and follow several stiles more or less in line, to a new gate and lane (unmarked). Follow the lane, turn right at the T junction to a small road. Follow the road for about 800m, cross Long Dale to an access point. Turn left and follow this pleasant grassy dale for som 3km to a junction with Gratton Dale at SK201597. Turn left down this beautiful dale for abot 2km to a small road. The lower part of the dale can become very wet. At the road turn left for 100m to a footpath on the right, follow way markers up the hill to another small road. Turn left and continue to where the road bends right, take a footpath which skirts below a disused quarry for about 500m and below a small outcrop of rock trend right crossing a broken wall to a style in the right corner of a field. Follow the vague track to a low col, the path continues across a large field, passing a barn on its left, through a stile, across a broad band of trees then on a gain to the far left corner of the next field. Take the lane downhill, through a small wood until a path leads down to the right of Mawstone farm. Follow the path and track to the road. Dogleg right, walk up the field to a track cutting steeply down into Bradwell Dale (deja vu). Cross the bridge and follow the stream all the way to Alport, 1.2km. Cross the road and continue along Lathkill dale to Conksbury Bridge (1.5km). Turn right, cross the river and take the upstream path on the opposite bank. Follow the valley past a series of delightful waterfalls to the small road from Over Haddon (deja vu). Up the hill to return. Allow 6-7 hours walking time |
